Snack Time – Oil Painting Dimensions: 46 cm x 60 cm x 4 cm Medium: Oil Witness a moment of pure, unassuming connection. This oil painting captures an endearing scene of childhood generosity, contrasting the soft simplicity of a muted landscape with the lively, focused activity of its subjects. The oil painting features a young girl, her dark hair braided and tied with a hint of red, crouched down in profile. Her white top and dark pants are punctuated by a vibrant slash of crimson from a small shoulder bag, the only saturated colour that anchors the human form. She is entirely absorbed in the act of sharing, extending a hand to a bustling crowd of pigeons gathered before her. Wolff employs a subtle, tonal palette dominated by soft greys, taupes, and delicate whites, perfectly conveying the hazy atmosphere of a park or town square. The pigeons themselves are rendered with a beautiful blend of soft brushwork and surprising detail, their individual forms overlapping in a flurry of feathers and quiet movement. The overall effect is one of serene, everyday poetry—a pause in the day where nature and humanity meet in a simple, gentle exchange. Oil Painting Cornelie Wolff Approaching Art from a Different Angle This Johannesburg-based artist started as a pharmacist. After completing her Honours Degree in Psychology, she joined Helios to further her skills in Art Therapy. During this time, she fell in love with art, the process and the emotional power it yields. While raising her family, which consisted of three young children, she took part-time classes with Rika de Klerk and Willie Jacobs. She also attended workshops led by Koos Bronkhorst, Niel Moss, Willie Jacobs, Rentia Coetzee, Ruth Walters, Elize Bezuidenhout, Douw van Heerden, Charla Maarschalk, and Jennifer McChristian. Today, she practices what she preaches by creating her work under the motto: “With every painting I complete, I grow as a person and an artist.” My art is created from a place of wonder – it is my dream for every human to never completely lose the child inside them, because it is our ability to see wonder and magic in things. I use bold brushstrokes, contrast and an impressionistic approach to entice the viewer to create their own interpretation of the subject and become part of my world.
