Floating – Oil on Canvas Dimensions: 30 cm x 40 cm x 4 cm Medium: Oil Escape to a quiet horizon with Cornelie Wolff’s ‘Floating,’ a transportive oil on canvas piece that captures the serene beauty of a boat adrift. This painting is an invitation to tranquillity, rendered in a palette of stunning, cool blues. The composition centres on a classic wooden rowboat, its form gently mirrored in the crystal-clear water below. Wolff expertly uses fluid, layered strokes to convey the dazzling effect of sunlight shimmering across the surface, giving the water an almost liquid, transparent quality. Patches of lighter blues and whites create a brilliant illusion of rippling current and shallow depths. Above, the sky is a vast expanse of cerulean, punctuated by soft, elongated clouds on the horizon line, creating a powerful sense of open space and infinite possibility. The boat itself, while empty, evokes feelings of peace, reflection, and quiet readiness for a journey. The artist masterfully handles light and shadow, giving the worn wood of the vessel a palpable texture that contrasts beautifully with the fluid environment. ‘Floating’ is a deeply calming and evocative seascape, perfect for adding a breath of fresh air and a touch of sophisticated marine beauty to any living space or study. Oil on Canvas Cornelie Wolff Approaching Art from a Different Angle This Johannesburg-based artist started as a pharmacist.  After completing her Honours Degree in Psychology, she joined Helios to further her skills in Art Therapy.   During this time, she fell in love with art, the process and the emotional power it yields. While raising her family, which consisted of three young children, she took part-time classes with Rika de Klerk and Willie Jacobs.  She also attended workshops led by Koos Bronkhorst, Niel Moss, Willie Jacobs, Rentia Coetzee, Ruth Walters, Elize Bezuidenhout, Douw van Heerden, Charla Maarschalk, and Jennifer McChristian. Today, she practices what she preaches by creating her work under the motto: “With every painting I complete, I grow as a person and an artist.” My art is created from a place of wonder – it is my dream for every human to never completely lose the child inside them, because it is our ability to see wonder and magic in things.  I use bold brushstrokes, contrast and an impressionistic approach to entice the viewer to create their own interpretation of the subject and become part of my world.
